Ryley Plunkett, Taylor Hanson and Zac Young MSWP Stars

Former Johansen High star Ryley Plunkett, The Bee’s Water Polo Player of the Year in 2006, leads the University of Michigan into today’s NCAA Tournament at the University of Maryland.

The No. 6 Wolverines (33-8) open with No. 2 UCLA (22-6).

Plunkett, a sophomore, is starting for Michigan and has six goals and 16 assists. She is the first Stanislaus District player to reach the tournament since Johansen’s Wendy Watkins made it with Stanford in 2004.

Hanson, Young make Zone 8 teams

Johansen High junior Taylor Hanson (top) and Turlock senior Zac Young have been selected to the USA Water Polo Zone 8 18-under travel teams.

There are 11 zones and the all-star teams from will play Memorial Day weekend in Davis (girls) and San Diego (boys). Zone 8 stretches from Oregon to Bakersfield.              Ryley Plunkett opens up this weekend in the NCAA’s - Ryley is the first Modesto player to play in the NCAA final set of games  since Wendy Watkins and Shannon Avrett in 2004 playing for Stanford.  Ryley Plunkett will be playing for University of Michigan where she has been a stalwart on defense.
